Waiting in the line at the Drugstore

Summary

Out of the night that covers me

Black as the pit from pole to pole

I thank whatever gods may be

For my unconquerable soul

James Thomas Jackson, African American 13-years boy, whose heart was full of hatred and unfairness towards outside "white world "has changed his attitude after reading above-cited lines. Those words inspired him and changed his life. He stopped being a clumsy little boy who had been waiting in the line with the only thought – escape from the annoying drugstore, but he became a boy who was looking forward to go back to the store where he could continue his reading. And time in the waiting line started to fade away. Reading had also changed the way people treated him. He broke the stereotype of uneducated Black American at least for people who saw him in the drugstore.

  2. It is amazing how little things such as a poem from a book can change a person's outlook on life completely. Since Jackson's outlook on life changed and he started to view the world with happiness and hope, people around Jackson could feel his positive energy and interacted with him with the same positive energy.
