Waiting in Line at the Drugstore/ Yujin Jeong/ ISS 2017

The reading, Waiting in Line at the Drugstore, inspired me with positive feelings and courage. I am talking about the reason why the William Ernest Henley's poem has an effect on Jackson and why Jackson feels his waiting time became shorter. The words and ideas in poem described what Jackson faced. I think the first two lines in the poem describe the problem or the bad situation that Jackson was facing. And the last two lines say that even if black is discriminated, there would be a hope or the way to solve it. Jackson felt the poem describes a similar situation and he could take courage from it. And then he overcame being treated differently by reading books and literature because he found something that he put his heart and passion into such as reading books. He totally fell into reading books enough to forget his waiting time in line. Reading books changed not only his life but also the attitude and the eyes that others look at him. I believe that a prejudice is just a prejudice and we could meet an unintended moment when we change many things around us.
